Representative Thompson Joins THA Effort to Combat Underage Drinking
Statewide Scholarship Poster Contest for Texas High School Seniors
Austin, TEXAS - State Representative Ed Thompson is teaming up with the Texas Hospitality Association (THA) to fight underage drinking and promote alcohol responsibility through a statewide poster contest that will award four 2013 graduating high school seniors a total of $10,000 in educational scholarships.
THA will award a $5,000 scholarship to the Texas high school senior who submits the best poster conveying the message or theme: "If you are under 21, it's illegal to consume or purchase alcoholic beverages in Texas." A $2,500 scholarship will go to 2nd place, $1,500 for 3rd and $1,000 for 4th place. The winning posters will be used in a statewide alcohol awareness campaign.
"Thanks to the Texas Hospitality Association for championing such a noble endeavor. I am happy to support their efforts to decrease underage drinking and build alcohol awareness while giving Texas students a creative way to share the message and chance to earn a college scholarship," said Representative Thompson.
The contest is open to all 2013 Texas high school seniors. Artwork must be an original design and may be computer or electronically generated, hand drawn or photographed. Students have until May 3, 2013 to submit their posters to THA.
