Rep. Pat Fallon Introduces Youth Programs for House District 106
Internships, Youth Council Designed to Involve Young People in Political Process
Austin, TX-- State Representative Pat Fallon (Frisco) is reaching out to young people in House District 106 by initiating an aggressive plan to involve them in the political process. The plan began as an earnest attempt to find interns for the District Office located in Little Elm, but expanded into a larger initiative with a much more significant purpose after talking to parents in the district.
"I realized that there are students out there who are hungry for a real opportunity and eager to become engaged in the political process. We have so many bright young people in the district, thanks largely to excellent parenting and a great public school system. Many of these students are looking for a chance to make a difference."
Rep. Fallon is searching for four interns to help with constituent services at the district office in Little Elm. Duties will also include interaction with community leaders and elected officials, as well as attending civic events throughout the district. During the internship, the students will enjoy a sponsored trip to Austin to engage in the action of the legislative process. For students who may not meet the age requirement or the time commitment, Rep. Fallon has established the Legislative Youth Council (LYC) for HD 106. The LYC will meet monthly and will serve as a workshop for motivated students to gather to explore ideas and develop leadership skills. Both opportunities are designed to help students develop professionally and distinguish themselves on college applications and job resumes.
Fallon has asked community leaders to aid in the selection process for both the internship and the LYC. The selection committee will review applications beginning in mid-March and will interview the top quarter of applicants. Final selections will be made by the end of March. Applications are due no later than March 8, 2013. For more information or to request an application, contact Rep. Fallon's Capitol office at:
