MONTGOMERY COUNTY STATE REPRESENTATIVES APPOINTED TO INFLUENTIAL COMMITTEES
Austin, TX - On Thursday, January 31, 2013, Texas House of Representatives Speaker Joe Straus announced committee assignments for the 83rd Legislative Session.
Montgomery County's current longest serving member, State Representative Brandon Creighton (Conroe), was appointed as Chair of the Select Committee on Federalism and Fiscal Responsibility, and to the House Committees on Insurance, International Trade & Intergovernmental Affairs, and Redistricting. "I am excited about my committee assignments and look forward to continuing my work on behalf of the people of District 16. Limited government protects our freedom. Our Constitution’s 10th Amendment restrains the federal government, and I am excited to continue to lead the fight for state sovereignty for Texas. Serving as chairman of the Select Committee on Federalism and Fiscal Responsibility will be especially crucial this session as the fiscal health of the state is a top priority in this challenging economic climate,” stated Representative Creighton.
State Representative Cecil Bell, Jr. (Magnolia) was appointed to the House Committees on Appropriations and Economic & Small Business. "I am humbled by these appointments,” said Representative Bell. "With rapid growth in both Montgomery and Waller Counties, I can think of no better-suited committees." Representative Bell will play a key role as Texas lawmakers continue to hold down the size of government by keeping a lid on spending.
State Representative Steve Toth (The Woodlands) was appointed to the House Committees on Corrections and Criminal Jurisprudence. Representative Toth is thankful for these appointments and will offer up to the House Members several pieces of legislation dealing with stiffer sentences for violent sexual predators. Representative Toth and Representative Bell expressed similar sentiments. "In addition to working on my own legislative agenda in the Texas House, these appointments allow me to represent the values and concerns of my constituents, and I look forward to a productive session,” said Representative Toth.
Together, these three Montgomery County State Representatives have pledged to work together for the people of Montgomery County on these influential committees.
