REP. LONGORIA TO JOIN FEDERAL, STATE, AND LOCAL OFFICIALS IN 19TH ANNUAL LEGISLATIVE TOUR OF THE RIO GRANDE VALLEY
For over 40 years, The Rio Grande Valley Partnership has been successful in bringing Texas State Legislators from the 181 legislative districts (150 House and 31 Senate) to the Valley, with the main objective being to educate them on the unique assets, opportunities and needs of our region. This weekend, January 24-27th, marks the Partnership's 19th Legislative Tour of the Rio Grande Valley.
"This tour will be an important one for the Rio Grande Valley Partnership and members of our Rio Grande Valley Legislative Delegation, giving us the opportunity to show-off what our area of the state has to offer and the important economic and business role it plays in Texas and the Nation," said State Representative Oscar Longoria.
Representative Longoria represents District 35 which encompasses both Hidalgo and Cameron Counties. Each year, the tour highlights different areas of the Rio Grande Valley and the businesses focused in each. Locations of interest in this year's tour include Brownsville, South Padre Island, and Raymondville where legislators will learn about Education, State Security, Space X, Economic Development, Renewable Energy, Fiber Optics, and Advanced Technologies.
“The goal of the biennial tour is to inform Texas Legislature and other elected officials of the Valley’s legislative priorities for the upcoming session by personally delivering the area’s issues and urgencies,” remarked Julian Alvarez, President & CEO of the RGV Partnership. “Additionally, the tour provides the delegation with critical stops, and the potential to significantly impact economic growth and success for this fast growing region.”
The 2013 Legislative Tour will share regional goals that will further economic development echoing national and state interests and accentuating the unique qualities of the Rio Grande Valley and South Texas Region. The tour will conclude with a Keynote Address by Speaker of the House Joe Straus and remarks by Secretary of State John Steen.
