REP. SIMMONS STANDS WITH GOVERNOR:END THE SHELL GAMES, STOP DIVERSIONS OF TAXPAYER MONEY
"For too long the Texas budget has been balanced using shell games. Extra money collected from fees, such as for state park entry, has been diverted away from its intended purpose to balance the budget. These diversions have become a hidden tax on the people of Texas as we collect more from them than we need and use the funds instead for other purposes.
"I stand with Governor Perry in calling for an end to the trick plays used to balance the budget on the backs of the people of Texas. I will work with him and any of my colleagues in the Legislature to pass a Constitutional amendment that ends these diversions and allows us to return that money to the Texas taxpayers. We either need that money for its intended purpose or we don't. That's what dedicated means."
