YOUNG TEXANS LEGISLATIVE CAUCUS ELECTS STATE REP. ERIC JOHNSON CHAIR
YOUNG TEXANS LEGISLATIVE CAUCUS ELECTS STATE REP. ERIC JOHNSON CHAIR AND STATE REP. CHRIS PADDIE VICE CHAIR
AUSTIN, TX – The recently formed Young Texans Legislative Caucus (YTLC) held its inaugural meeting and elected Representative Eric Johnson (Dallas) as chair and Representative Chris Paddie (Marshall) as vice chair. The group of 32 lawmakers also discussed which issues will be the main areas of focus for the caucus during the 83rd legislative session.
"I am honored to serve as the first chair of the Young Texans Legislative Caucus,” said Representative Johnson. "I intend to lead this bipartisan coalition of House members toward a better future for Texas this session as we focus on those issues most vital to young Texans, especially education,” he concluded.
Texans who are 40 years of age or younger play a number of vital roles in Texas: they are students, parents, homeowners, entrepreneurs, workers, active duty service members, and veterans. In today's meeting, the membership decided to focus its efforts on legislation related to public and higher education, water, transportation, and infrastructure.
"I joined the caucus because it is particularly important for us to focus on the future of our state,” said newly elected vice chair Representative Paddie. "This caucus will be especially important this session as we get ready to tackle the persistent problems related to water, transportation, and infrastructure," he continued.
The Young Texans Legislative Caucus is open to members of the Texas House of Representatives who are 40 years of age or younger, as well as members who represent a district where the percentage of the population 40 years of age or younger exceeds the state average of 58%.
The Caucus will utilize Facebook, Twitter, and other electronic means to communicate with young Texans around the state. You can follow the YTLC on Twitter at @YoungTexansLC and like the YTLC on Facebook at www.facebook.com/YoungTexansLegislativeCaucus.
Eric Johnson represents District 100, which includes parts of Dallas and Mesquite, in the Texas House of Representatives.
