Rep. Zedler - REVISIONS PLANNED FOR THE SEXUALLY-ORIENTED BUSINESS LICENSURE BILL
AUSTIN, TEXAS - In light of recent media coverage regarding HB 337, I would like to make some clarifying remarks on the intent of the Sexually Oriented Business Licensure bill, in hopes of assuaging any fears that may have risen as result of its filing.
HB 337 aims to curb the flow of human trafficking and related offenses by encouraging responsible practices and accountability within the sexually-oriented business community. It is not the intent of this legislation to persecute or shame individuals who choose to maintain a sexually-oriented profession, but simply to verify that all those involved are legal adults doing so consensually, and not under the constraint of others.
In regard to the requirement to conspicuously display licenses bearing a worker's full name during their shift, we acknowledge the potential safety threat such a requirement would pose, and are revising the bill to ensure that the privacy of those affected will not be compromised.
