REP. LUCIO III APPOINTED TO INTERIM COMMITTEE ADDRESSING TEXAS RESPONSE TO FEDERAL SEQUESTRATION
This week House Speaker Joe Straus appointed State Representative Eddie Lucio III to the newly created Interim Committee on the Texas Response to Federal Sequestration. The Committee is tasked with analyzing the possible effects of federal sequestration on Texas' economy and Texans.
"I appreciate the Speaker appointing me to this very important Committee," said Lucio. "While I am confident our leaders in Washington will come to a reasonable agreement, I share the Speaker's sentiment that we should prepare for all outcomes to protect our state."
The federal sequestration will trigger as a deficit reduction measure included in the Budget Control Act of 2011, a bipartisan act signed into law by President Obama. The intent behind the sequestration measure was to force reasonable negotiation between members in Congress, while never intending for the measure to come to fruition.
"This is a very important issue, which could have a significant effect on the state budget," Lucio remarked. "I strongly believe in the resolve of our state. We should and will be prepared for any likely outcome."
