FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 09/21/2012

REP. EDDIE LUCIO III IS PROUD TO ANNOUNCE THE VALLEY ENVIRONMENTAL SUMMIT 2012

State Representative Eddie Lucio, III, Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ), and the Valley Environmental Summit Steering Committee will be hosting the third annual Valley Environmental Summit to focus on environmental issues that impact the Rio Grande Valley on Thursday, October 4, 2012, at the Brownsville Events Center located at 1 Events Center Boulevard.

Through the joint efforts of local and grassroots organizations there will be an open forum for local participants to discuss the challenges of local environmental issues such as water pollution, waste management, sustainability and environmental technology.

"I’m proud to once again host the Valley Environmental Summit which offers a venue that engages and empowers our citizens, the business sector, non-profits, and grassroots leaders to identify environmental issues and tangible solutions that will bring positive and sustainable change to our environment and improve quality of life. It is critical that we as elected officials continue to work with our community to ensure that we identify and minimize potential environmental hazards along the Rio Grande border. I plan to continue taking the identified problems and solutions to my legislative colleagues to let them know that the Rio Grande Valley is working together as concerned individuals, as partners, and as a region because we care enough about our environment to actively participate in safeguarding the future of the Rio Grande border," stated Representative Eddie Lucio, III.

The Valley Environmental Summit 2012 will be held in Brownsville and will include Cameron, Hidalgo, Starr, and Willacy counties. The Summit's Steering Committee is extending an invitation to federal, state, and local political leaders, neighborhood associations, colonia residents, non-profits, and businesses to attend this event.
