STRAUS ANNOUNCES NEW ASSISTANT PARLIAMENTARIAN
Austin, Texas--Today, Texas House Speaker Joe Straus announced Shalla Santos as the new Assistant Parliamentarian and Special Counsel.
Santos will work alongside Chris Griesel, who has served as Parliamentarian since 2011. Santos previously served as a staff attorney at the Third Court of Appeals in Austin. Before joining the court, Santos worked in private practice and served as a briefing attorney for Justice Don R. Willett at the Supreme Court of Texas.
"I am honored to be assisting Chris at the Texas House," Santos said. "I look forward to serving as a resource for the members, especially as we prepare for the upcoming session."
The House Parliamentarian assists the House and each of the 150 members in all legislative, legal and procedural matters in a nonpartisan manner.
"I am happy to welcome Shalla to the Capitol," Speaker Straus said. " I know she will be a valuable asset to the Texas House and our members with her experience and expertise. As a critical partner to the Texas House, the Parliamentarian's office assists the House in orderly completing the people's work."
Santos is a graduate from the University of Texas School of Law and has an undergraduate degree from Harvard University. Santos also serves as the coach of moot court teams at the University of Texas School of Law, where her teams have twice won the Hispanic National Bar Association Competition.
