LT.GOV.DEWHURST & SPEAKER STRAUS - JOINT INTERIM COMMITTEE TO STUDY PUBLIC SCHOOL FINANCE SYSTEM

PUBLIC SCHOOL FINANCE SYSTEM


AUSTIN---Today, Lt. Governor David Dewhurst and Texas House Speaker Joe Straus (San Antonio) announced appointments to the Joint Interim Committee to Study the Public School Finance System. The joint interim committee will conduct a comprehensive study of the public school finance system in Texas and make recommendations to the 83rd Legislature. The committee was created through Senate Bill 1, 1st Called Session, 82nd Legislature.

"The future of Texas is being forged in our classrooms every day," said Lt. Governor Dewhurst. "That is why the Texas Legislature remains dedicated to continuing our investment in public education, directing more resources to the classroom and improving the quality of learning for every student in every school and every district across our state.”

"Nothing will make a greater difference in the future of our state than the willingness of all Texans to put education first and truly make it our top priority in Texas, and I'm pleased to appoint members to this Select Committee to do so," said Speaker Straus.

Lt. Governor Dewhurst has appointed Senator Florence Shapiro (Plano) as joint chair of the Committee. Members include: Senators Bob Deuell (Greenville), Robert Duncan (Lubbock), Juan "Chuy" Hinojosa (McAllen), Jane Nelson (Flower Mound), Dan Patrick (Houston), Kel Seliger (Amarillo), Carlos Uresti (San Antonio), Leticia Van de Putte (San Antonio), Royce West (Dallas) and Tommy Williams (The Woodlands).

Speaker Straus has appointed Representative Jimmie Don Aycock (Killeen) as joint chair of the committee. The committee members include: Representatives Alma Allen (Houston), Rafael Anchia (Dallas), Rob Eissler (The Woodlands), Ryan Guillen (Rio Grande City), Donna Howard (Austin), Dan Huberty (Houston), Susan King (Abilene), Todd Smith (Euless), Vicki Truitt (Keller) and Mike Villarreal (San Antonio).
