Rep. Anchia Receives Legislative Champion Award From Christian Life Commission
AUSTIN – State Representative Rafael Anchia received the Horizon Award in recognition of his efforts on behalf of issues supported by the Christian Life Commission at the State Capitol in Austin on February 16, 2012. This year marks the first time that the Christian Life Commission has honored Texas legislators for their work during a legislative session.
Since first being elected to the Texas House in 2004, Rep. Anchia has worked with the Christian Life Commission on a number of issues that are important to his constituents in District 103. This session, in his capacity as Vice Chair of the Pensions, Investments and Financial Institutions Committee, his focus was on supporting legislation that regulates the payday lending industry. In addition, as an advocate for comprehensive immigration reform, he was a vocal critic of anti-immigrant legislation that was filed in both chambers of the Texas legislature.
"I am proud to have been chosen to be among the first group of Texas legislators to receive the Horizon Award," said Rep. Anchia. "The Christian Life Commission has an impressive history of standing up for Texans from all walks of life, and I hope to have the opportunity to continue our collaboration for many years to come."
“The people of Texas are fortunate to have elected officials like Rep. Anchia who devote their considerable talent to public policy that advances the common good., " added Suzii Paynter, Director of the Christian Life Commission, " and we are thankful for the years of support and cooperation from Rep. Anchia and his staff on so many issues of importance to us.”
Representative Rafael Anchia is a former DISD school board trustee serving his fourth term in the Texas House and represents District 103 of northwest Dallas County.
