TEJANO MONUMENT NEARING COMPLETION
THE TEXAS CAPITOL, AUSTIN - Please join Rep. Sergio Muñoz, Jr. at a press conference and ground breaking ceremony on Friday January 13, at 10:00 a.m. on the South steps of the Texas Capitol, where the Executive Board of the Tejano Monument, Inc. and other officials will announce the construction, installation and unveiling schedule of the Tejano Monument, and will announce the implementation of the first of its kind Tejano History Curriculum Program. A ground breaking ceremony will follow at 10:40 a.m. at the future site of the Tejano Monument on the Historic Capitol Grounds.
The Tejano History Curriculum Program will be created and implemented at the University of Texas at Austin, then will expand throughout the state via "teaching boxes" and seminars targeting 4th and 5th grade educators. The program is made possible through very generous support from WalMart, IBC Bank, and the Renato Ramirez Family Partnership.
"I am very excited to be a part of this announcement and process," said Muñoz. "History is being made twice by this group of dedicated Tejanos… The Tejano Monument will be the largest of its kind on any Capitol grounds, and the first to grace the Texas Capitol; and the Tejano History Curriculum Program will allow Tejanos to tell their story though a very credible institution with the work of renowned scholars at the University of Texas at Austin Department of History."
The events of the morning of Friday 13 January are as follows:
10:00 a.m. - Press Conference; South steps of the Capitol
