SPEAKER JOE STRAUS APPOINTS BLUE & FREED TO TEXAS EMERGING TECHNOLOGY ADVISORY COMMITTEE
AUSTIN--- Today, Speaker Joe Straus (San Antonio) announced the appointments of Michael Blue (Austin) and William A. "Billy" Freed (San Antonio) to the Texas Emerging Technology Advisory Committee.
"The advisory committee will provide needed oversight to help ensure that the Texas Emerging Technology Fund uses taxpayer dollars wisely," said Speaker Straus. "I am pleased to appoint Michael Blue and Billy Freed to the committee, and I know their background and expertise will help to ensure sound investment in worthy projects."
Michael Blue of Austin is currently the managing partner of Ernst & Young's Austin office. Mr. Blue has over 22 years experience serving multinational public and privately held companies. Billy Freed of San Antonio is currently a Principal at Nueces Marketing Partners, Ltd. Until 2008, Freed spent 12 years teaching three entrepreneurial and business creation courses at Trinity University.
The Texas Emerging Technology Fund (ETF) was created to fuel innovation, development and to be a partner in progress with the private sector. The advisory committee recommends proposals eligible for funding through the ETF to the governor, lieutenant governor and speaker of the Texas House of Representatives. House Bill 2457, Regular Session, 82nd Legislature, created more transparency in the ETF and the Texas Enterprise Fund (TEF), by requiring that the governor seek the advice of the speaker of the house and the lieutenant governor on any amendments to grant agreements. The bill also requires that grant agreements include a job creation provision and deadline in order to encourage economic development.
