REP.JOHNSON KEYNOTE SPEAKER AND GRAND MARSHAL FOR DALLAS MLK JR. CENTER BANQUET AND PARADE
REPRESENTATIVE ERIC JOHNSON NAMED KEYNOTE SPEAKER AND GRAND MARSHAL FOR DALLAS MLK JR. CENTER BANQUET AND PARADE
State Representative Eric Johnson (Dallas) will be keynote speaker and Grand Marshal for Dallas' Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center's 30th Annual Awards Banquet and Parade.
"MLK's impact on the contemporary black community is so tremendous that I can't even put into words how proud I am that I've been chosen for such an honorable role in this year's ceremony. In both my public and private life, I've taken Dr. King's legacy to heart, a legacy which I pledge to carry on, to the best of my ability, in the Texas House of Representatives," Representative Johnson said.
This year's theme is "Remember! Celebrate! Act! The Dream Lives On." The weekend's celebration begins on Friday, January 13, with the Awards Banquet at the Omni Dallas Hotel and culminates with a candle lighting ceremony at the MLK Recreation Center the following Saturday night. For the past 30 years, the people of Dallas have joined together to observe the mighty contribution Dr. King gave to this world, some years before the national holiday was officially observed. The celebration intends to advance Dr. King's efforts to improve the quality of life for all people.
Prior to this honor, Representative Johnson has served as both a board member at the MLK Community Center and Chairman of their 26th Annual MLK day celebration. In the Texas House of Representatives he serves on the House Committee on Higher Education, the House Committee on Appropriations and on the newly created Joint House and Senate Committee on Higher Education Governance, Excellence, and Transparency.
