Christmas Tree Unveiled in the Texas House Chamber
(AUSTIN) - Nadine Craddick, wife of Texas House of Representatives Speaker Tom Craddick, today unveiled the 2008 House Christmas Tree. The ornaments used to decorate the tree will be auctioned off and proceeds from the sales will benefit Habitat for Humanity.
"The House Christmas tree is a spectacular way to celebrate the holiday season, and brings warmth and joy to all the visitors who pass through the House chamber," Mrs. Craddick said. "Every year, the decorators do an incredible job in bringing their chosen holiday theme to life, and I'm always delighted by the result.
As they have four years prior, Kathy Harrison and Becky McCraney, owners of Miss Cayce's Christmas Store and More, Home of Show Me Decorating, in Midland, and their crew of elves decorated the tree. This year the tree is decked out to the theme of "Merry Christmas from Deep in the Heart of Texas." The tree features cowboy hats, boots, stars, horseshoe-shaped ornaments, Texas-shaped ornaments and cowboy Santas.
This year, the ornaments were sponsored by the Texas Association of Realtors (TAR). Once the holiday season is over, TAR will auction off the ornaments to benefit Habitat for Humanity. Joining Nadine Craddick at the tree unveiling was Austin Habitat for Humanity Executive Director Michael Willard
"We are excited to be working with the Texas Association of Realtors on this event," Willard said. "Texas Association of Realtors is an organization that knows the importance of homeownership, and the purpose of Habitat for Humanity, of course, is to provide homeownership to hardworking families. Habitat is also very pleased to join with Speaker Tom Craddick and Nadine Craddick on this important holiday fundraising effort."
"Christmas is a time for giving, and in this time, we especially want to remember those less fortunate than us," Mrs. Craddick said. "Habitat for Humanity is a wonderful organization that brings the dream of home ownership to many people for whom it would otherwise be unattainable. I'm pleased that we're able to donate the Christmas tree ornaments to such a worthy cause."
