October 1, 2005 Designated " Neal McCoy Day " in Texas

Longview ~ October 1 is designated Neal McCoy Day in Texas. The designation was signed by Governor Rick Perry on August 2. With this famed recognition, the popular country music artist and local philanthropist joins legends ZZ Top, Audie Murphy, and Willie Nelson who have also been honored by the State of Texas with their own day.

"Neal McCoy personifies the character of the heroes of Texas. It is indeed an honor to know a person who contributes so much of himself to his community, state, and nation," said Representative Merritt.

"It is a privilege for me to help honor such a remarkable Texan. Neal McCoy and his organization have truly made a difference in the lives of many. We are blessed that he has chosen to give so much to the communities and people of East Texas," said Sen. Eltife.

Longview Mayor Jay Dean commented, "We are proud to have Neal McCoy as an honorary resident. He is the consummate civic-minded citizen, giving of his time and talent on a regular basis."

This year Mr. McCoy was the recipient of the Academy of Country Music/Home Depot Humanitarian Award, presented during the 40th Annual Academy of Country Music Awards.

Neal and Melinda McCoy's East Texas Angel Network Benefit begins Friday with a golf tournament, silent auction, and dinner. Saturday Mr. McCoy and special guests will entertain a packed house of fans who have contributed to the children.
