AUSTIN – House Concurrent Resolution 44, which urges the Congress of the United State to pass Senate Resolution 2896, more commonly known as the Care Veterans Deserve Act of 2016, was filed by State Representative Will Metcalf (Conroe) and jointly authored by State Representatives Mark Keough (The Woodlands) and Cecil Bell Jr. (Magnolia).

Senator John McCain (Arizona) is the author of Senate Resolution 2896, the Care Veterans Deserve Act of 2016. This legislation would require certain Veteran Affairs facilities to stay open longer hours and open their provider networks to accommodate medical professionals who wished to volunteer their time in order to reduce wait times and lines for veterans seeking care. Additionally, it would allow qualified veterans to seek out the doctor of their choice rather than forcing them into VA care.

"Our veterans deserve the absolute best care," said Metcalf. "In the wake of the wait time and lack of care scandals, Senator McCain has been a solid voice of reason and compassion in defense of our veterans. There are currently 1.6 million veterans in Texas. We have to do right by them and make sure we keep our promise to take care of them."

"Texas is home to the second highest veteran population in the nation and we must do everything we can as a state to ensure our heroes receive the very best care." Said Keough. "Passing SR 2896, authored by Senator McCain is one small step towards ensuring better care for our veterans. I am proud to be a part of the Montgomery County delegation in the Texas House that recognizes the importance of our veterans, and urging congress to pass this important piece of legislation. I will continue to work with the delegation to ensure Texas does everything in our power to provide the best possible care for our hometown heroes."

"Duty and honor compelled our veterans as they served our nation," said Representative Cecil Bell Jr. "Now duty and honor compel our actions as a nation in assuring that our veterans receive the medical care which they earned by their service."
