REP. MATT KRAUSE STATEMENT ON THE INJUNCTION BY TEXAS SUPREME COURT ON PROPOSED MEDICAID CUTS  print page

AUSTIN, TEXAS - Today, the Texas Supreme Court issued an injunction against Medicaid cuts to acute therapy services. These cuts have the potential to greatly affect access to care for many Medicaid patients, especially children in need of physical, occupational, and speech therapies.

"I'm happy to see the Texas Supreme Court delay these cuts to children's therapies," said Rep. Matt Krause. "The Texas Legislature ordered the Health and Human Services Commission to find cuts in their reimbursement rates for these kinds of therapies due to evidence pointing to chronic overcompensation in these services. While I agree that the cuts should happen, I'm especially concerned with the effects the proposed cuts could have on access to care for minors."

"I greatly appreciate the hard work that Commissioner Smith and his staff have done on this issue and their cooperation with me and my office," Rep. Krause continued. "I look forward to hearing the Texas Supreme Court's take on the issue and finding a healthy, appropriate amount of cuts that don't hinder access to care for some of our most vulnerable Texans."
