PLANO, TX—In defense of one of the strongest pieces of pro-life legislation in American history,
State Representative Matt Shaheen joined a bicameral, bipartisan coalition of his fellow Texas
legislators in signing-on to an amicus curiae brief supporting House Bill 2, passed during the second
called session of the 83rd Legislature, and currently under review by the United States Supreme
Court. The case, Whole Women's Health v. John Hellerstedt, M.D. Commissioner of The Texas Department of
State Health Services, et al.,(No. 15-274), is set for oral arguments before the Supreme Court today.
Representative Shaheen told constituents, "I am honored to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with my
fellow legislators on behalf of the millions of Texans supporting our action to protect the God-given
Right to Life. I hope and pray that the Court affirms the judgment of the Fifth Circuit Court of
Appeals in the Whole Women's Health v. Hellerstedt Case." The brief, submitted to the Court on
February 3rd of this year, includes the support of 121 current and former Texas legislators.
Representative Matt Shaheen resides in Plano, Texas and serves the citizens of District 66,
which encompasses west Plano and far north Dallas, in the Texas House of
Representatives. Previously, Representative Shaheen served five years as County
Commissioner for Precinct 1 of Collin County.
