Houston, Texas - November 4, 2015 -- Following the success of the first Teen Summit in 2014, State Representative Jim Murphy (HD-133) will host the 2016 West Houston Teen Leadership Summit on Saturday, February 20th. The Teen Summit, attended by local high school sophomores and juniors, will be held at the Norris Conference Centers in CityCentre. The Teen Summit's goal is to help develop the leadership skills of high school students by connecting them with local executives, politicians, and community leaders.

Increasing civic engagement among youth in the community has long been a priority for Representative Jim Murphy. The West Houston Teen Leadership Summit continues that initiative through the collaboration of students and their local leaders. According to Representative Murphy, "These student delegates will benefit from the speakers' experience and insights, and will be better prepared to become our next generation of leaders."

All West Houston high schools have been invited to select their delegates and seventeen schools so far have started the process. At-large positions are also available and will help fill the appropriated 200 delegate positions. The Summit is held free of charge to the attendees.

The Teen Summit has attracted top Houston-area leaders to participate. Panelists include Former Mayor of Houston Bill White, University of Houston President Dr. Renu Khator, former Texas Secretary of State George Strake, longtime KPRC news anchor Linda Lorelle, and former U.S. Ambassador to Qatar Chase Untermeyer. Houston businesses represented at the Teen Summit include ConocoPhillips, Memorial Hermann Healthcare System, and the Houston West Chamber of Commerce. The Greater Houston Partnership will also provide attendees with an in-depth economic analysis of House District 133.

The summit will be divided into four major topics: Business, Politics, Media, and Personal Leadership. Along with leadership-oriented panels and Q & A exchanges, the students will engage in group discussions with experts on specific policy issues."
