Austin, TX - On September 23, 2015, State Representative James White hosted the Texas Water Development Board (TWDB) in Lumberton, Texas, to discuss chronic flooding issues that impact the city, in particular, and the county, in general. "Lumberton is integral to the local economic prosperity of Southeast Texas and therefore it deserves top-class public infrastructure," said Rep. White.
TWDB member Kathleen Jackson brought a team of technical specialists in financing, funding, and engineering in major public infrastructure projects from Austin and Houston. "The State of Texas is blessed to have Ms. Jackson on the Water Development Board," said Rep. White. He adds, "Kathleen is a faithful public servant. She's an engineer. She's from Southeast Texas and has a track record in delivering projects for small Southeast Texas cities."
After Lumberton officials articulated their unique needs, the TWDB made a firm commitment to work with Lumberton on devising a conservative and viable financing option for Lumberton. Additionally, County Judge Wayne McDaniel brought forward a vision for a county-wide flood relief plan. "I'm extremely proud of everyone that attended. The County Judge has an aggressive vision for Hardin County. Mayor Muckleroy from Silsbee and City Manager Jack Provost of Sour Lake attended as well," said White. "We [government officials] can't over promise and under deliver, but we can't continue this annual spring ritual of seeing our citizens most prized investment, their homes, flooded," stated Rep. White.
