Representative Mary E. González Supports Honest Businesses in Texas  print page

by: Rep. González, Mary

AUSTIN, TX – Yesterday, House Bill 94 and House Bill 63, both authored by State Rep. Mary E. González, were voted out of the Texas House of Representatives.

• House Bill 94 tasks the Texas Workforce Commission with providing a publicly accessible database that lists the employers guilty of wage theft. The database would include publicly available information on businesses that have been found guilty of wage theft. This bill would bring attention to the damage wage theft inflicts on honest businesses and workers across the state.

• House Bill 63 establishes a yearly tribal summit, which will provide a forum for discussion about the potential effects of specific governmental actions on tribal governments before decisions are made. The summit would be between the Governor of Texas and leaders of Texas' three federally recognized tribes: the Alabama-Coushatta tribe, the Ysleta Del Sur Pueblo, and the Kickapoo

"Wage theft not only damages employees, but it also penalizes businesses who operate in good faith," Rep. González said. "This problem is bad for good business, and I will continue to work to ensure that the needs of employees around the state are heard in the legislature."

With 27 days left in the 84th Legislative Session, State Rep. Mary E. González has passed 9 bills out of the Texas House so far.
