AUSTIN, Texas— On Tuesday, May 5th, Senate Bill 979 Authored by Senator Brandon Creighton and Sponsored by Representative Morgan Meyer (Dallas) was sent to the Governor to be signed into law.
“Congratulations to Representative Meyer on the passage of his first bill,” stated Senator Creighton. “It was a privilege to work shoulder-to-shoulder with him to ensure consumers and their families have clear access to payments due to them through hospital indemnity coverage.”
"It has been an honor working with Senator Creighton" said Rep. Meyer. "I am proud to have worked with him on the first bill I send to the Governor for his signature, and hope we have many more opportunities to work together on good legislation in the future."
SB 979 aims to ensure consumers continue to have access to hospital indemnity insurance coverage. These insurance policies have been in the insurance marketplace for decades and pay benefits directly to the policyholder to assist with out of pocket costs associated with an accident or sickness. These benefits are increasingly important given the breadth of procedures now performed on an outpatient basis.
Senator Creighton represents District 4, which encompasses Chambers, Jefferson and parts of Montgomery, Harris, and Galveston Counties. He currently serves on the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Water and Rural Affairs, the Senate Committee on Criminal Justice, the Senate Committee on State Affairs, and as the Vice-Chairman of the Senate Committee on Business and Commerce.
Representative Meyer represents House District 108, which includes downtown, uptown, near east and north Dallas, including the Town of Highland Park and the City of University Park.
