AUSTIN -- State Representative Tony Dale, Cedar Park, has been elected as Chairman of the House Energy Caucus. This caucus, which includes both Members of the House, studies and addresses issues related to traditional and alternative energy sources, as well as the energy industry's effect on the rest of the state. The caucus is open to all members of the Texas House of Representatives whose legislative district includes significant energy production of oil, gas, coal or lignite, wind or solar electric production capacity, refineries, gas processing plants, oil and gas reserves, or manufacturing facilities for oil and gas tools or who are employed in or professionally engaged in activities relating to the energy industry.

The purpose of the House Energy Caucus is to aid and assist members of the Texas House of Representatives, and their staffs, particularly in regard to matters of interest to energy impacted areas and regions of the state, with the goal of providing a strong voice on those matters in the legislative process. The Caucus will focus on policy issues regarding traditional energy production such as oil, gas, and coal, as well as, alternative energy including wind and solar power, and emerging technologies like clean coal/coal gasification. In addition to its focus on policy issues regarding energy production, the Caucus will also identify, research, and build coalitions to help resolve social and infrastructure issues experienced by areas and regions of the state experiencing significant impacts from increased activity related to the energy industry.

According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration, Texas is first in the nation in production of oil, natural gas, and wind energy. Texas coal and lignite production is also a key supplier for energy demands. As technological capability and demand has increased, the growth and expansion of these forms of energy production has affected all areas of the state, including central Texas, where the energy industry has brought significant job growth. Companies like National Oil Well Varco, Tolteq, Corvalent, EEstor and 3Ps Solutions have created well-paying primary jobs in southwestern Williamson County.

"Energy is a vital, growing industry in Williamson County, and this leadership post will help me advocate for my constituents who work in the energy sector," Dale said. "In addition, strong energy policies will benefit all of my constituents, and my role in this caucus gives me the opportunity to help educate other members of the House on the important role this industry plays in the Texas economy."

State Representative Tony Dale is a member of the House Homeland Security and Public Safety Committee, the House Energy Resources Committee and the House Local and Consent Calendars Committee. He represents southwestern Williamson County including the communities of Cedar Park, Leander, Brushy Creek, and parts of Austin and Round Rock.
