AUSTIN(December 9, 2014)-- Today, in preparation of the upcoming 84th Legislative Session, starting January 13, 2015, Representative Reynolds(Fort Bend County), filed House Bill 474. This bill will require that all police officers wear a body camera during traffic stops and when in pursuit of suspects.

“The benefits of body-worn cameras are transparency in policing, reduced confrontations with the public, as people are mindful they are being recorded, and more-accurate evidence. When an incident occurs and the facts of the case are disputed by police officers and suspects, the camera provides another set of facts, which may aid in determining what actually occurred,” said Rep. Reynolds.

Rep. Reynolds continued by stating, “I support President Barack Obama's recent call to commit funds for body cameras on local law enforcement so that we can ensure public trust and accountability. The President's plan will promote effective crime reduction while rebuilding trust in our communities. To that end, that is why I have filed this legislation to require all police officers to wear body cameras while on duty when pursuing a suspect.”

I look forward to working with my colleagues in the House to move this bill forward so that we can develop good public policies that will increase police transparency and protect the citizens in our communities", commented Reynolds.
