McAllen, TX— State Representative R.D. “Bobby” Guerra is proud to include Doctors Hospital at Renaissance to be a part of this year’s House Chamber Christmas Tree at the Texas Capitol. In conjunction with the Children’s Hospital at Renaissance, Felisa Saldivar, an Ambassador at the Rehabilitation Hospital at Renaissance, was chosen to design the ornament for Texas District 41. Representative Guerra and his wife Leslie- Yoder Guerra presented the ornament at the Capitol in Austin.

“Leslie and I were both thankful for Felisa’s contribution to the Christmas tree in the Capitol. Her ornament illustrates the diverse culture of District 41 and the Rio Grande Valley,” said Representative Guerra.

Each year, House members select a constituent to create a visual representation of what makes their Texas House District special. For the last four years, the ornaments have been displayed on the Christmas tree in the House chamber in Austin. The story of each ornament is documented in an album in the House Chamber so that visitors to the Capitol may learn the story behind each ornament. Representative Guerra strongly encourages all of his constituents in House District 41 to visit the Capitol and see our region’s ornament hang proudly on the House Christmas tree.

The 2014 House Chamber Christmas Tree will be on display in the Texas Capitol until January 2, 2015. The majestic 19-foot tall Texas-grown tree showcases the distinct nature of every House district in Texas through its unique ornaments. The ornaments showcase the many facets of Texas, which is home to over 26 million people.

Saldivar’s design promotes Representative Guerra’s district and the entire Rio Grande Valley. One side of the ornament depicts the Valley’s coastal beaches of South Padre Island. On the other side there are groves of oranges representing our region’s trademark of fresh produce. There is also the UT- Rio Grande Valley logo painted on the ornament, which captures our region’s dynamic spirit and excitement for the much anticipated new medical school and regional university.

“Many thanks to Felisa and Doctors Hospital at Renaissance for their great efforts in promoting our beautiful region,” adds Guerra.
