"Giddings' Film Workshop Identifies Incentives for DFW Film Industry Professionals"

Representative Helen Giddings (Dallas), organized a "Film Incentive Workshop" for Dallas-Fort Worth area film industry professionals on the afternoon of Monday, May 19, 2014 at the South Dallas Cultural Center. This workshop, led by Texas Film Commission ("TFC") employees, Stephanie Whallon and Alicia Downard, provided a step-by-step overview of the "Texas Moving Image Incentive Program." Additionally, TFC provided an overview of the services their office provides to the film community, as well as their involvement with the production industry throughout Texas.

Giddings is a longtime supporter of the arts in Texas, especially local artists. Giddings explained, "I want the members of the film community to know that the state of Texas supports their artistic efforts and dedication. Perhaps more importantly, the incentive programs provides jobs. I wanted to do something to help support Texas filmmakers who truly want to make film projects within our state, and help them understand what incentive programs the state has to offer."

There were over 65 film industry professionals in attendance at the workshop. Attendees were encouraged to ask questions, obtain clarification about aspects of the incentive program, and meet other members in their industry.

Representative Giddings thanked the following people and organizations who helped make this event a success: Ms. Heather Page, Ms. Stephanie Whallon, Ms. Kim LeBlanc, and Ms. Alicia Downard of the Texas Film Commission; Ms. Vicki Meek and Ms. Marilyn Clark of the South Dallas Cultural Center; Mr. David Small of the Texas Black Film Festival; Ms. Dee Evans of Women in Film Dallas; Mr. James Faust of the Dallas Film Society; Mr. Joey Bennett of The Texas Hospitality Association; Ms. Trish Avery of the Screen Actors Guild (SAG-AFTRA) and Ms. Tricia Woodgett of Tiger Eye Films.

Additionally, Giddings is working with the Dallas Film Commission to inform the local film community.
