Austin, TX – On May 15, the Speaker of the Texas House of Representatives, Joe Straus, appointed State Representative Tony Dale (Cedar Park) to the newly created House Select Committee on Child Protection.

The Select Committee on Child Protection is charged with studying the incidence of abuse and neglect fatalities in Texas and making recommendations to the entire House on how to better protect our children.

On being appointed to the committee, Representative Dale stated ”I am honored that Speaker Straus has appointed me to the Select Committee on Child Protection. Following the recent deaths of children in foster care in Williamson County, to include a child in Cedar Park, I started making inquiries into the system. Our foster care system must not only safeguard children, but also ensure the parental rights of fit parents are protected and that foster parents are supported. I look forward to working with Chairwoman Dukes and my colleagues on the committee to tackle these challenging issues.”

On appointing the committee Speaker Straus said "The death of even one child due to abuse or neglect is unacceptable. The Texas House is committed to working with Child Protective Services (CPS) and local communities to prevent senseless tragedies. I am confident that this committee will provide meaningful recommendations to improve outcomes for Texas children.”

Dale was elected to the Texas House in November 2012. He is a small business owner and veteran of the U.S. Army who previously served on the Cedar Park City Council. He represents western Williamson County, including the communities of Cedar Park, Leander and Brushy Creek, as well as parts of north Austin.
