This week, as the world continues to celebrate the life of the late Nelson Mandela, Texas State Representative Helen Giddings (Dallas), has worked with community leader Dr. Harry Robinson Jr. of the African American Museum in Dallas to allow the public to sign a condolence book in Mr. Mandela's honor. The special condolence book will be available starting Friday, December 13, 2013 until Sunday, December 15, 2013 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day.

Giddings is not only a Texas State Representative, but also serves as the Honorary Consul from Dallas to South Africa. As an Honorary Consul, Giddings has many memories working with Mr. Mandela. Giddings reflected on her first meeting with Mr. Mandela: "I will forever treasure the privilege of spending time with him. My first meeting with Mr. Mandela in 1995 was a unique experience that was an absolute realization that I was standing in the presence of greatness. Later meetings were just as inspirational and I continued to be in awe of both his charisma and his humility."

Mr. Mandela has inspired so many individuals and organizations all over the world, but Giddings wanted to help give the community a way to participate in the celebrations of Mr. Mandela's life. Giddings explained "This condolence book is a way for the people of Dallas to send their condolences and share their memories of Nelson Mandela."

The condolence book will be available for signatures starting Friday, December 13, 2013 to Sunday, December 15, 2013, at the African American Museum in Dallas, located at 3536 Grand Avenue, Dallas, Texas 75210. After which, the condolence book will be forwarded to South Africa's Ambassador to the U.S., Ebrahim Rasool, then sent to South Africa.
