Austin – Today, State Representative Ken King (Canadian) announced his committee assignments as made by Speaker of the House of Representatives, Joe Straus (San Antonio), and issued the following statement:

“I am proud to announce that Speaker Straus has appointed me to the House Standing Committees on Judiciary & Civil Jurisprudence and Public Education. I thank the Speaker for his confidence in me to contribute to these important committees. I look forward to helping shape Texas’ judiciary policy in the Judiciary & Civil Jurisprudence Committee and utilizing my years of experience as a member and president of the Canadian ISD school board in the Public Education Committee."

The Judiciary and Civil Jurisprudence Committee has jurisdiction over a wide range of topics such as civil law, civil procedure, and administrative law as well as the organization and functions of the Courts in Texas and the Office of the Attorney General. The Public Education Committee will deal with the public school system, elementary and secondary education programs, and have jurisdiction over the State Board of Education and the Texas Education Agency.

Rep. King continued saying, “Speaker Straus had the extraordinary responsibility of assessing the talent and ability of over forty new members, coupled with the seniority and overall diversity of the House membership. The 2013 committee assignments reflect his thoughtful, measured, and balanced approach to this very important task."

Ken King was elected to serve the citizens of District 88, which contains counties in both the South Plains and Panhandle sections of Texas, in November of 2012. He served as member of the Canadian ISD school board for 5 years and President for 3. He also serves as Vice President of King Well Service, Inc. a fifty-year-old, family run energy services firm based in Canadian, Texas.
