REPRESENTATIVE MATT KRAUSE FILES INTRASTATE FIREARM PROTECTION BILL  print page

AUSTIN, TEXAS - Today, State Representative Matt Krause (Fort Worth) filed H.B. 627, which would exempt intrastate manufacture of a firearm, firearm accessory, and ammunition from federal regulation.

"The Constitution clearly enumerates the powers and authority of the federal government, and according to the Tenth Amendment any power not expressly granted to the federal government is reserved to the states," said Rep. Matt Krause. "A firearm that is made, sold, and used in Texas—an explicitly intrastate transaction—does not fall under Congress' authority to regulate commerce between the states and should be expressly protected in state law."

H.B. 627 is necessary to protect Texas gun owners in light of the President's recent executive actions and his stated agenda regarding gun control.

"My constituents, and Texans across the state, have made it clear to myself and my fellow legislators that they want us to stand firm in defense of their constitutional right to keep and bear arms. I believe that H.B. 627 sends a clear, strong message to our federal government where Texas stands on the 2nd Amendment."
