Rep. Lucio Announces Skills Development Fund Grant  print page

AUSTIN - On Wednesday, February 22, Texas Workforce Commission's Commissioner Representing the People Andres Alcantar will present Texas Southmost College and Carling Technologies with a $115,203 Skills Development Fund grant.

Carling Technologies has partnered with Texas Southmost College to provide 79 current and future employees with the opportunity to further their skills that will ultimately improve productivity, product quality and advanced manufacturing skills. The training program will include buffing machine tool setters, press room set up technicians and quality control technicians. The individuals who complete the training will earn an average of $14.74 an hour.

"A skilled workforce is essential to our economy. This public-private partnership will lead to better training and future job opportunities," said Rep. Lucio. "When our business and industry leaders work together with our education institutions it creates a direct path to employment for our students. I will continue to work towards innovative ways in which the state can facilitate a stronger job market."

The ceremony for the presentation of the check will be held on Wednesday, February 22, at 12:30 p.m. at Carling Technologies Plant located at located at 3734 International Blvd. in Brownsville. TWC Commissioner Representing the People Andres Alcantar, Texas Southmost College President Tercero and Carling Technologies Plant Manger Francisco Miranda will be present to accept the grant.

The Texas Workforce Commission is a state agency dedicated to assisting Texas employers, workers and communities prosper economically.
