SPEAKER JOE STRAUS ANNOUNCES HOUSE APPOINTMENTS TO THE MEDICAID REFORM WAIVER LEGISLATIVE OVERSIGHT COMMITTEE
AUSTIN--- Speaker Joe Straus (San Antonio) today announced Texas House appointments to the Medicaid Reform Waiver Legislative Oversight Committee. Speaker Straus has appointed Representatives Garnet Coleman (Houston), Brandon Creighton (Conroe), Lois Kolkhorst (Brenham), and John Zerwas (Richmond) to the committee.
“The costs of health care and an increasing population in Texas speak to the urgent need for Medicaid reform," Speaker Straus said. “During the past several sessions, the Texas Legislature has funded a budget that covered necessary services without raising taxes, but to keep our state economy growing, we must look for ways to improve the quality and efficiency of the Medicaid program."
The Medicaid Reform Waiver Legislative Oversight Committee facilitates the design and development of the Medicaid reform waiver, as well as a smooth transition from existing Medicaid payment systems and benefits to a more efficient and cost-effective new model of Medicaid enabled by waiver. The committee was created through Senate Bill 7, 1st Called Session, 82nd Legislature.
