Biography

Dan Flynn is in his sixth term representing House District 2 in the Texas House of Representatives, where he has gained a reputation as a strong fighter for the values of limited government, fiscal responsibility, and family values. In 2013, Representative Flynn was named East Texas Legislator of the Year for his principled conservative leadership.

Throughout his years of public service in the Texas House of Representatives, Representative Flynn has never voted for a bill to raise taxes, and Texans for Fiscal Responsibility has named him a Texas Taxpayer Hero, citing him for always seeking to reduce the burden of taxes, looking for smarter ways to spend tax dollars, and working to make the budget process more transparent and accountable.

During the 83rd Session of the Texas Legislature, Representative Flynn serves as Co-Chairman of the House Select Committee on Transparency in State Agency Operations. Representative Flynn's leadership reflects his dedication to government transparency and accountability. He also serves as Vice Chair of the House Committee on Investments and Financial Services and as a member of the House Committee on Homeland Security and Public Safety.

Representative Flynn has extensive experience in border and homeland security issues. Governor Rick Perry commissioned Representative Flynn as an Admiral in the Texas Navy, a title reserved for honoring those who have provided great service to Texas. In his new role, Representative Flynn has worked on the State's response to the crisis on the Texas-Mexico border, homeland security, and veterans affairs as well as addressing the lack of response from the Federal Government to these vital concerns. As Commander in the Maritime Regiment of the Texas State Guard, he has deployed to the border in support of state disaster response. The US Department of Defense has recognized Representative Flynn for his strong legislative support of the department's efforts.

In addition, Representative Flynn is an active member of both the National Conference of State Legislators (NCSL) as well as the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC). In October 2012, he was appointed Chairman of the NCSL Military and Veterans Affairs Task Force. He currently serves as Chairman of the Budget & Revenue Committee, is a member of the International Relations Task Force, and is past Vice Chair of the NCSL Standing Committees, and member of the International Relations Task Force.

Representative Flynn is a native Texan and had a distinguished career in the banking industry of Texas, including service as the Deputy Banking Commissioner for the State of Texas. He has served as a consultant in the financial and banking industries in Texas, nationally, and internationally. Prior to his election to the Texas House of Representatives in 2002, he served as County Judge of Van Zandt County.

Representative Flynn lives with his wife Susan in Van, Texas, where they are active members of the Church of the Nazarene.
