Born and raised in San Antonio, Justin Rodriguez grew up near the campus of St. Mary’s University. Following Antonian College Prep Justin crossed town to earn his BBA from the University of the Incarnate Word and subsequently earned an academic fellowship to attend the University of Wisconsin Law School, where he graduated in 2000 with his JD. In law school Justin served as Vice President of the Latino Law Students’ Association and participated in the law school’s Legal Defense Program. There he represented indigent clients in state court. Upon graduation, Justin was awarded the Bruce F. Beilfus Award for Outstanding Service to the Law School.
Once an attorney, Representative Rodriguez returned to San Antonio and focused on education policy issues. As a juvenile prosecutor for the Bexar County District Attorney’s Office, he worked diligently to assist young offenders in their rehabilitative efforts. Soon after, Representative Rodriguez was elected to the San Antonio Independent School District’s Board of Education.
After serving for three years on the SAISD Board, Representative Rodriguez was elected to the San Antonio City Council in May 2007. He was re-elected in 2009 for a second and final term. While at City Hall, Representative Rodriguez was an advocate for economic and educational opportunities for the hard-working families of his district.
For his service, Representative Rodriguez has been awarded the Congressional Award for Outstanding Service and has been recognized by the San Antonio Business Journal as a "40 under 40" Rising Star. He was also recently named one of the "20 Latino Democrats to watch over the next 20 years" by the Houston Chronicle.
In 2012, the citizens of House District 125 elected Representative Rodriguez to be the voice of their community in the House of Representatives. Representative Rodriguez and his wife Victoria are raising their three children in the heart of San Antonio's west side.last updated on 03/15/2010
