State Representative Linda Harper Brown is one of the most successful and well-respected lawmakers in the Texas Legislature. As Irving's State Representative, she is focused on protecting Texas jobs, finding fiscally responsible solutions for our state budget, finding ways to repair our education system, and keeping Texans moving on our roadways. Harper Brown has been instrumental in fighting back efforts that would impose more taxes on hard working families and small businesses. She has consistently championed efforts to reduce the size of government, create more transparency in government, and fight illegal immigration.
Representative Harper Brown currently serves on the House Committee on Transportation, Local & Consent Calendars Committee, Rules & Resolutions Committee, and Government Efficiency & Reform Committee. In these key positions, she has an opportunity to play an active role in advancing policies that will protect taxpayer dollars, bring more transparency and accountability to government, and improve our transportation system.
Elected by her peers, Harper Brown is serving her fifth term as Treasurer of the House Republican Caucus. She is also the Vice-President of the Texas Conservative Coalition (TCC) and TCC Foundation Board of Directors. In 2012, she was selected to serve as the President of the Texas Conservative Coalition Research Institute, an Austin-based public policy research foundation.
Serving as Chairman of a national transportation committee, Harper Brown has the unique opportunity to use her vast knowledge of transportation issues to represent Texas' interests in Washington, DC. She has served on the National Conference of State Legislatures' Transportation Committee since first being appointed by the Texas Speaker of the House in 2005. In 2011, she was selected to serve on the National Conference of State Legislatures' board for the Women’s Legislative Network.
Since first being elected to the Texas Legislature in 2002, Representative Harper Brown has served as Vice-Chairman of the House Committee on Land and Resource Management, and as a member of the Elections and Higher Education committees. She also served on the Legislative Council Board, as well as the Sunset Advisory Committee.
The hard work and dedication consistently demonstrated by Representative Harper Brown has been recognized by various organizations. She was chosen by the National Republican Legislators Association as the recipient of its national Freshman of the Year Award and was honored with the Civil Justice Leadership Award for her support of legislation to improve medical liability and civil justice laws in Texas. Representative Harper Brown has received the Rising Star Award by the Texas Women's Initiative; the Small Business Award by the National Federation of Independent Business; and the Champion of Free Enterprise Award, the highest accolade by the Texas Association of Business for her pro-business, pro-Texas voting record. She has received Heritage Alliance's Conservative Leader Award twice and has been named a Taxpayer Champion by Texans for Fiscal Responsibility.
Prior to being elected to the Texas Legislature, Harper Brown was a strong conservative voice on the Irving City Council for more than five years. In addition, she was a former school board member and Irving Schools Foundation Board President.
Married to Bill Brown, a Certified Public Accountant, Harper Brown is the proud mother to Timothy, Terry and Craig, and doting grandmother to Bethany, Cassie, Haleigh, and Harrison.
