State Representative Chris Turner serves the people of District 101, a rapidly growing and diverse area of Tarrant County, which includes major portions of Arlington and Grand Prairie.
Chris believes that as Texas grows and changes, we need new approaches to address our most pressing issues, such as expanding educational opportunity for young Texans, increasing access to affordable health care, improving the economic well-being of all Texans and broadening civic participation.
During his two terms in office, Chris has passed significant pieces of legislation, including measures which expand consumer and tenant protections, improve public safety, crack down on sexual predators, and help address the needs of our state's veterans and their families.
For his work on those and other issues, Chris has received numerous accolades and awards, including being named a "Texas Women's Health Champion" by the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, "83rd Legislative Session Champion of Equality" by Equality Texas, and receiving the Sierra Club's "2013 New Leadership in Environmental Protection Legislative Service Award." Chris has also twice been named "Best of the House" by the Combined Law Enforcement Associations of Texas (CLEAT).
Following his first legislative session, Chris was recognized for his outstanding work on issues impacting veterans and named "Legislator of the Year" by the Texas Veterans of Foreign Wars, "Legislator of the Year" by the Vietnam Veterans of America, and the Texas State Council, and the bi-partisan Legislative Veterans' Caucus's "Freshman of the Year." He was also given the "Leadership Award" by the Texas Veterans Commission. He was also named "Freshman of the Year" by Texas Watch for his work on consumer protection issues.
A lifelong Texan and Dallas native, Chris is a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin. Chris and his wife, Lisa, live in Grand Prairie.last updated on 01/22/2015
